WhatsApp Virtual Numbers by Country: Real Delivery Rates (2026 Data)
2026-09-29
Most guides about WhatsApp virtual numbers are written from theory. This one comes from our own order log.
Between August 27 and September 28, 2026, customers on TempSMS bought 721 WhatsApp numbers. We counted how many of them actually received the WhatsApp code. The answer isn't pretty, but it's useful if you're about to buy one.
Key findings
- Only 9.3% of numbers received a code (67 of 721). WhatsApp silently rejects most virtual numbers.
- But 24 of 28 buyers (86%) still got verified. Failed numbers are refunded automatically, so people kept switching countries until one worked.
- The typical buyer needed 4 attempts (half of them needed between 2 and 8).
- Country matters more than price. The best countries delivered two to three times more often than average, and several cheap countries delivered nothing at all.
Delivery rate by country
Only countries with at least 8 numbers bought are listed. Small samples swing a lot, so read the percentages as a direction, not a guarantee.
| Country | Numbers bought | Codes received | Success rate | Avg. price when it worked |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brazil | 26 | 7 | 27% | $1.96 |
| Colombia | 30 | 7 | 23% | $0.32 |
| Mexico | 9 | 2 | 22% | $2.15 |
| South Africa | 46 | 8 | 17% | $0.67 |
| Philippines | 41 | 7 | 17% | $0.53 |
| United States | 176 | 23 | 13% | $0.80 |
| United Kingdom | 25 | 3 | 12% | $1.27 |
| Chile | 50 | 2 | 4% | $0.47 |
| Canada | 27 | 1 | 4% | $0.45 |
No code at all (8 or more numbers each): Pakistan, Ukraine, Indonesia, Vietnam, Argentina, Ecuador, Mauritania, Tunisia, Kyrgyzstan, Morocco and Tajikistan.
Why most virtual numbers fail on WhatsApp
WhatsApp doesn't tell you when it rejects a number. The SMS just never comes. Three things explain most of it:
- Number reputation. Ranges that were used heavily for sign-ups get flagged. The cheapest countries tend to be the most abused, which is why a $0.25 number from the wrong country often loses to a $2 number from the right one.
- Line type. Numbers that look like VoIP or landlines are refused. Real mobile ranges pass far more often.
- Cooldowns. If someone tried to register the same number recently, WhatsApp shows "wait X hours" and nothing arrives.
How the 86% got in
The people who succeeded didn't keep retrying the same number. They:
- Started with a country near the top of the table above.
- Waited a few minutes and cancelled if no SMS arrived (the refund is automatic).
- Switched to a different country instead of buying another number from the same one.
- Turned on WhatsApp's two-step PIN right after the code arrived.
Because failed attempts cost nothing, the real cost was just the price of the number that worked.
Methodology
- Source: TempSMS order log, WhatsApp orders from August 27 to September 28, 2026.
- Only numbers that were actually issued are counted (not "out of stock" attempts).
- Automated test accounts that never tried to receive codes are excluded.
- "Success" means the WhatsApp SMS code was delivered to the number within the waiting window.
- We'll update this table every month.
FAQ
Which country is best for a WhatsApp virtual number?
In our September 2026 data, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico had the highest delivery rates, followed by South Africa and the Philippines. The United States had the most volume, at 13%.
Why didn't my WhatsApp code arrive?
Usually WhatsApp rejected the number silently (reputation or line type), or the number is on a "wait X hours" cooldown. Switch countries instead of retrying the same number.
Do I pay if the code doesn't arrive?
Not on TempSMS. If no SMS arrives in time, the number is cancelled and the balance goes back to your wallet automatically.
Is it safe to keep a WhatsApp account on a virtual number?
It works, but the number is your login. Turn on two-step verification and add an email right after registering, because a one-time number can't receive a new code later.
